Based on the observation that logistics companies sometimes call themselves choreographers for marketing purposes, we unfold our own entanglement in global trade cycles. The picture of a global logistics choreography is based on the assumption that flows of goods, information and people around the globe can and must be remote-controlled in highly efficient ways. In many cases, the human and ecological costs of transport, any form of friction, and the peculiarities of concrete places and realities are ignored.

In order to prove that logistics does not equal a form of royal ballet, we embark on several research journeys: We follow second-hand goods from the port of Hamburg to Lagos (Nigeria), where we simultaneously search for practices of clandestine appropriation of oil and oil infrastructures. We investigate how waste is turned into expensive land on the Lebanese coast. And we try to understand the logistics of paradise by investigating questions of water distribution and oil supply on the island of Crete.

In January 2020, the collected research material has been presented as an exhibition and performance at Kampnagel, Hamburg. The Great Report is a project by Moritz Frischkorn, funded by the Elbkulturfonds of the Ministry of Culture and Media in Hamburg, the ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung, and co-produced by Kampnagel, Hamburg.
